Dr. Tanju Yılmazer, Medical Director of the Home Health Unit at Private Izmir Gazi Hospital and Family Medicine Specialist, warned patients and their relatives about getting correct and appropriate services while receiving home health services, and shared information about their own practices.
What is Home Health?
Providing health and social care services needed by individuals in an organized manner with a professional understanding in the environment lived in is called "home care." "Home health," on the other hand, is providing every needed health service at home under physician supervision. Home health and care are service areas with specific contents and philosophies that influence each other's scopes.
Why do you feel the need to give a warning about home care?
Today, social life and the increasingly growing elderly population increase the importance of and demand for home health services. However, we all observe the reality that some medical and administratively incorrect and inappropriate interventions are being made by some individuals who lack Ministry of Health approval, certification, and necessary equipment and knowledge.
What does certification and Ministry of Health approval mean for home care in terms of private health services?
With the regulation published by the Ministry of Health, the authority to provide home health has been given to institutions that meet certain conditions, and administrative requirements for this have been clearly stated. For example, the health institution must take necessary precautions for emergency situations and provide service to the patient when a problem occurs. Those providing home care services should even be able to meet ambulance requests.
What is your approach as the Home Health Unit of Private Izmir Gazi Hospital?
The continuation of health depends on the person living in balance with their biological, psychological, and social environment. We care about the holistic approach and in our home health understanding, we aim to resolve all kinds of health needs/problems by addressing the healthy/sick person as a whole with their family and environment.
Do you have different approaches in home care?
We use health technologies such as "Tele-Health" and "Digital Home Health" that allow remote monitoring of patients for suitable patients and situations. We provide theoretical and practical training to increase the knowledge and skills of those providing patient care at home, and ensure the attendance of health professionals such as dieticians and physiotherapists.
